Adding a Charge Point

This page explains how to add a charge point (Evnex or 3rd party) to your account.

Evnex currently works with any charging station that supports OCPP1.6J. We do not support OCPP1.5J/S. A list of known compatible charge points is here: Supported charge points.

Adding an Evnex charge point

Adding an Evnex charge point is straight-forward. Our charge points are pre-configured to connect to the Evnex platform by default, so no configuration is needed on the charge point end.

On the charge point menu, select 'Add Charge Point' and then select 'Evnex' as the vendor. If you haven't already, you'll need to Add a Location.

Charge point details

Once you've selected the location that you want to add the charge point to, enter your chosen name for the charge point e.g. "Front Carpark" and the charge point serial number. The charge point serial number can be found here:

Optionally, you can add a reference ID for the charge point as well.

Authorisation

If you want the charge point to be set up in 'free mode' then leave 'Authorisation Required' switched off. If the charge point will be authorised via an RFID card, or configured for billing via OCPI, then switch it to 'on'. To proceed to the next step, click 'Next'.

Electricity price

Electricity price is used to calculate charging session costs. Select your currency and price per kWh.

Confirmation

Confirm your details and click 'Create Charge Point' to complete the process.

Adding a third party charge point

Adding a charge point from another vendor requires a few more steps, as you'll need to point the charge point to Evnex's server and enter details about the charge point power rating and connector configuration.

On the charge point menu, select 'Add Charge Point' and then select 'Other' as the vendor. If you haven't already, you'll need to Add a Location.

Charge point details

Once you've selected the location that you want to add the charge point to, enter your chosen name for the charge point e.g. "Front Carpark".

The next step is to select your chosen charge point ID. You may choose the format you wish to use for your charge point IDs, but a consistent approach is suggested that will help to identify the charge point on your network. Note that a 4 letter prefix is appended to the start of your charge point ID. This prefix is unique for your organisation.

Optionally, you can add a reference ID for the charge point as well.

🚧

Choosing your charge point ID

Once a charge point has been created, its charge point ID cannot be changed. You'll need to delete it and start over again. Depending on the charge point, it may not be possible to change the charge point ID remotely after it has been installed, and if changed incorrectly, you may lose connection to the charge point.

📘

Take note of the charge point ID, including the prefix, as you'll need this later when you configure the charge point.

Connectors

To configure the connectors for your charge point, click the connectors box and then click 'Add Connector'. Select the standard, format, power type, voltage and max current for your charge point. Repeat this step until all of the connectors for your charge point have been added.

Confirm your details and click 'Create Charge Point' to complete the process.

Charge point configuration

Once you've added the charge point to your account, you'll need to configure the OCPP settings on your charging station.

The charge point ID that was set above, including the prefix, for example:

After the settings have been applied, reboot your charge point, and all going well, your charge point should now show as online!
